With attention, preservation begins.

Puerto Rico's El Yunque rainforest pulses with sound. In this living ecosystem, cellist Amy McNally and sound artist Matthew Hiram capture the textures of the forest, offering a new suite for deep listening and ecological connection.

Using battery-powered equipment, the duo gathered nocturnal frog calls, shifting wind, and bioelectrical plant signals, forming the structural elements of the composition. The work moves through acoustic resonance and electronic diffusion, blurring the line between forest and instrument. We pass through the night, bringing gentle illumination to the surrounding shadows.

Originally premiered as a 24-channel ambisonic performance at Reforesters Laboratory in Brooklyn, the piece unfolds here in four movements, preserving the spatial depth and textural complexity of its origin. Cello and Moog synthesizer guide the listener deep into the night, while Rosewood alto flute, Sidereal gong, and brass singing bowls weave through the breathing voice of the forest.
